I’ve been there three times and it never gets old.
Over to the right is Ted Smith’s first Learjet from the late 70s when everyone told him that nobody would ever expect to receive packages overnight. What an idiot!

Make sure you check out the one downtown- it is much smaller but well worth a visit. Also Gravelly Point is a great place to watch DCA ops from (also JFK Center observation deck).
For food by Udvar-Hazy El Fresco is amazing Mexican and cheap. It’s just off 28 on Route 50.

I went to the NASM the summer of 76 (or was it 77?) when it first opened. They had to build the Hazy center because the collection just got too big. I now prefer the Hazy Center because the NASM is just too crowded.

Yeah I like the Udvar-Hazy center a lot too, but the one downtown has some stuff that will never make it to Dulles (like the moon rock). For first-time visitors I usually take them there and to the American History museum.

You are correct. NASM is better for casual aviation fans, UHC is better for hard core plane geeks.
